Friday Harbor is the first place you’ll see after stepping or driving off the ferry to San Juan Island. Set right above the marina, this little town is the main center of the San Juan Islands. Full of restaurants, cute boutiques, and hotels, Friday Harbor offers a break from the beautiful PNW sights of the islands for something a little more settled. If you have been to San Juan before, you would definitely have noticed the adorable little red mopeds zooming around the island. I know whenever I am over there it is super tempting to get one of these sweet rides for the day— they’re just too cute! If you want a slower drive around the island as well as some physical activity, rent a bike from Meat Machine Bicycles. Biking is a popular activity out on the islands and I think San Juan is one of the best for biking since it is fairly flat. The Meat Machine shop is located just a few blocks off the ferry terminal in Friday Harbor so you can get off the ferry and into a bike right away!

There are so many amazing things to do out in the San Juan Islands but one of the best ways to interact directly with the gorgeous sea views is to get right in the ocean with a kayak or paddleboard! Sea kayaking is one of my favorite activities out here because I get to see so much of the neat oceanic wildlife and there’s just nothing like paddling through these gorgeous waters! You just might see a Bald Eagle soaring overhead, or a seal sliding past you, maybe even some starfish or crabs in the tide pools!

Kayaking might too much work for you, being on vacation as you are! Instead of kayaking, maybe renting a small boat with a group of friends is the activity for you! Take a group out for a lovely day of fishing, crabbing or just cruising. Some of my best memories growing up coming out to the San Juans were cruising around in my grandpa’s boat, setting up crab traps and exploring the other tiny islands in this beautiful area. There are tons of adventures to be had out here, why not be the captain of your own San Juan adventure ship?
